Leadership Spotlight

Leadership Spotlight Amber

This week we feature Amber Sandess. Amber has served as a Director since 2021; she is currently wrapping up her third year.

Amber became a licensed agent in 2010 and went full-time as a Realtor® in 2016. She is currently serving as Vice Chair of the Program Committee as well as serving on the Professional Standards Committee, now known as the Member Development Committee.

When asked what made her decide to get involved in Leadership, Amber stated that she wanted a different perspective within the membership. She wanted to better understand the decision-making process and how that is shared with the members. With some prompting from Shirley Thomas and Heidi Hilzendeger, she decided to take the next step.

Amber stated that serving on the board has been a definite learning experience. She has a better understanding of the meeting process and Board Structure, who represents who, and who to contact for different things. She also stated that serving on the Board has given her a better insight into the decision-making process and how things do not happen overnight. She shared that there is a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into what the membership sees. There is a lot of thought that goes into communication and decisions made within our Board.

Amber also stated that the Leadership perspective has helped to see the value of a Realtor® better. She stated, “It’s more than just selling homes. What we do as a Realtor® is so much bigger than that. BMBOR has done a great job of helping us to promote that.”

When asked what advice she would give to someone considering leadership she said “Just do it”. She continued that there is a lot to learn, don’t be afraid to ask the questions, even if you think they are stupid, ask them anyway. Get out of your comfort zone and give it a try.

In addition to serving as a Director for BMBOR, Amber also serves on the Legacy Wrestling Boosters and is a Board Member for MATPAC Wrestling Club.
